Gore Verbinski of “Pirates of the Carribbean” fame is set to direct and produce a film based on award-winning video game, Bioshock. Luckily, Bioshock’s creative director, Ken Levine is serving as Verbinski’s consultant for the movie, so perhaps it won’t suck outright. However, I think the movie would work better if it focused on a different time in Rapture, instead of basing it directly off the game. Half the reason the game was so great was the discovery that YOU’RE not in control of the game as you thought you were, which is virtually impossible to convert to a screenplay. I’m crossing my fingers on this one.
Part of me wants to dread this, but another part wants to buy the ticket as soon as I can. Game-to-movie deals like this usually don’t work out very well, and the thought of Bioshock being removed of choice takes away the fun that was in the game.
I guess I’ll have to wait and see.
