More on Friendfeed Rooms

I’m really liking the idea, but I probably won’t use it—there isn’t really much incentive for me to use it at the moment, seeing most of my friends only use Facebook. #

Okay, that was a lie: I did join a few rooms since I wrote that, but I’ve been really uneasy about it, since I find that each day, there is about two pages of new content to go through. Combined with Google Reader, where I am getting about 50 new entries a day, the information that I consume quickly piles up and I don’t want to add too much more to this so my schedule still has an ample amount of time off the computer.

Still, I gave it more thought—Why should I subscribe to a room when I already have specific people I want to read content from instead? And then the answer came to me: Friendfeed rooms are a lot like people, but focus more on specific topics. Unlike subscribing to a person you may not enjoy all of the content of (even though there is hiding, which provides very flexible options to filter this), rooms can greatly increase the signal-to-noise ratio if used well. Even though Friendfeed Rooms can’t show you imported items yet, they are still very powerful and I am looking forward to see how much more they make Friendfeed my primary website to visit.
